Altho pieces of it feel a little dated (pretty common for a near-future sci-fi written more than a decade ago) and the plot is sometimes a bit contrived, the world building and action of this heavy dystopian thriller make it a page turning success.
dulevoz is a mesmerizing collection of lengthy high-def videos from trains traveling through Serbia and Montenegro, made with obvious care and love for the trains and the view.
Both the sci-fi elements and the scientist characters are really fun and involving in this carl sagan book adaptation - but on the other hand the love interest is really annoying and the movie should’ve been 30 minutes shorter.
Doerr’s first novel is far too long, far too sentimental; you can see all the signs of what will make him a world-class writer but he’s not there yet; it wasn’t bad but I would only recommend this to completionists like myself.
