this third book in Herron's slow horses spy series plots a steady trajectory downward from the first two in originality and verve - I decided not to bother finishing it.
Super fun finish to the famous epic, gets more and more biblical in language as it goes on, way too many named characters and storylines to easily follow on a first readthru, not enough dwarves.
I don't quite remember but I’m pretty sure this was my first re-watch as an adult and altho we spread it over 3 nights (it's a 4 hour movie) I definitely enjoyed the epic fantasy and great mix of practical effects and CGI.
Chernow clearly fell in love with the famous general and president over the course of writing this long but approachable biography, but that didn't stop him from providing a wonderfully balanced and nuanced deep dive look at a truly remarkable man.
It's ridiculous, silly, overdramatic, super long, annoying background music, but! at the same time, the action is fun af, the dancing is fantastic, and if you watch it with a friend you'll definitely have a good time.
